Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

As we Americans celebrate 240 years of independence today, we contemplate our current state of the Government and wonder if a true 2nd revolution would have occurred if the same men were alive today as were in 1776.

As a  man, overall, I think I would be “that guy”, always coming out ahead, surviving, growing stronger, leading others. The fact is, from the 1760’s good men had died, and all throughout the years, good and great men died. Even those that survived were and are not recognized and celebrated. Below are some of the notes on what happened to the men whose signed our Declaration of Independence. A Real hero dies and gets a squishy movie made about him

The following is a guest article by Dan McNeil

If you have any doubts about what a sissy you are, read Laura Hillenbrand’s book UNBROKEN.

Unbroken, the Book
Unbroken, the Book

Sure, you fought in Operation Desert Storm, braved enemy fire, put out flamethrowers with your spit, and cleared whole minefields by stepping on mines and daring them to go off. Sure, you won a couple of Medals of Honor and goosed the president’s wife at the ceremony.   But how do you stack up next to a real hero like the guy named Louis Zamperini?

Has It Really Been 68 Years?

This is a reprint of an article written by Dan McNeil. It has been reprinted with his permission and has been left unedited. It gives a lot of history, that is no longer in books, in a condensed format. Take it as history and facts, if you are a hater, go to another blog please.

68 years ago, in 1948, at least two thousand years after-the-fact, the United Nations declared Israel a nation. One day later, in just the first of many cases of pissey middle-east buzzkill, every Arab country surrounding Israel declared war.   Continue reading Has It Really Been 68 Years?

Darrell Scott Testimony – Remembering Columbine

This was taken from an email that went around many years ago. Though this is attributed to Darrell Scott, I cannot see where it is not contributed to him.

“Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. Continue reading Darrell Scott Testimony – Remembering Columbine

Did Peter O’Toole Cause All the Problems in the Middle-East?

The following is another guest article by Dan McNeil of Cartridge World on South Campbell in Springfield MO.

This article may be intense for some however I found it a interesting read and should make you think.

———————————————————————-

Peter O’Toole, who stars in one of my favorite movies, A Lion in Winter, (a sheer pleasure to watch) passed away a couple of years back. Alongside Katherine Hepburn, O’toole plays Henry II, a fading and cruel English king who torments and divides his three scheming sons by dangling succession to the throne in front of each of them.

Hepburn plays his queen, the unloved Eleanor of Aquitaine, who hopes to escape her tower exile by murdering Richard with the help of their sons.

Taking place at Christmas, this story of a supremely dysfunctional family has a bitingly funny script that is decidedly un-Christmassy.

Break Glass in Time of War

I had a long introduction about PTSD and how it has influenced me, my family and friends, however, I would prefer you just delve into the article.

This article is reprinted with permission from a man I recently met, David Burnell. Though it was written a couple of years ago, I feel it is as valid as ever. The article here is un-edited, however in case you want to double-check, the original is located here: http://www.tactalk.com/2010/08/break-glass-in-time-of-war.html?utm_source=Constant+Contact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=letter-20131205 Continue reading Break Glass in Time of War

Prepping tip by Ed Hultgren friend and guest writer

Shelter- We need shelter…period. Even though we all know that guy with the hairy back, We humans cannot maintain our delicate body heat without some kind of covering, beyond back hair.

We need to stay within a small margin of degrees to function. Normal is around 98.6 right? Some are a little cooler some a little warmer but it’s still a narrow margin. If our temp rises or falls more than 4 or 5 degrees, we’re in trouble.

Pope Hope? Nope!

Today we are blessed with another guest article by the never controversial Dan McNeil who owns the Cartridge World on South Campbell in Springfield Missouri

Because of all the brouhaha surrounding the visit by Pope Francis, there are a lot of new pope books out there.  Here’s an older one you might have heard of.

The title is inflammatory and unfair, but the book does present a fairly accurate picture of 1930s Europe and the terrible quandary Pope Pius XII and the Catholic Church found themselves in. Continue reading Pope Hope? Nope!
